Top 10 Things To Do This Weekend (August 9 - 10)

Even though time did not permit us to maximize every opportunity this week, we are sharing these Top 10 films that caught our attention. This is in the light of supporting our local film industry graded with high quality from the bright minds and heart of young directors, story makers and actors. The list is in no particular order of recommendation.

Let us give our all-out support to the organizers of Cinemalaya. Happy 10th year Anniversary!




S6PARADOS by GB Sampedro

SYNOPSIS: “Separados” is a half-bittersweet, a quarter-comic, and a quarter-tragic narrative of six men who have separated from their wives. Based on true stories, their parallel and simultaneous accounts are stemmed by a church wedding to a second wife by one of the characters, reflecting their struggles and issues about their personal love life.

SYNOPSIS: While the marriage of two professors is falling apart, the woman was brought into a scandal involving a student. On the other hand, the man fell in love with his research -- a deity (supernatural being) that manifests to him as the ghost in the form of an old flame.

Hustisya by Joel C. Lamangan

SYNOPSIS: A woman fights for her soul in the heart of the city. Working for an agency involved in human trafficking controlled by a dominant syndicate, she shrugs off the crimes as it unfolds to her. In a society like in our setting, you have only two options – to be a victim, or a victimizer – the ball game is on her.

MARIQUINA by Milo Sog

SYNOPSIS: Imelda is uninterested towards shoes. To her, they bring the bittersweet memories of childhood, remembering her shoe-maker father, Romeo. Growing up, all of her shoes were handmade by him. Now a grown woman, she searches for the perfect shoes for her dead father for his funeral. The more she searches for the perfect shoes, the deeper she finds herself.

HARI NG TONDO by Carlos Siguion-Reyna



SYNOPSIS: Hari ng Tondo is the story of Ricardo Villena, a sucessfull man on the brink of bankruptcy, who brings his grandchildren back to the hometown that molded him, to recover his self-worth. As he aims to educate his descendants, save his community and the way of life he grew up with, he confronts heartbreaking realities about his own past—amidst the skepticism of attitudes in the Tondo he thought he knew.
